Sometimes He Waves

He walks the long lake road
not appropriately dressed
as in barefoot in winter or clown clothes
his lips move in constant speech
occasionally he quietly sings
we were friends from third grade
later he was sent to fight in Vietnam
since then he walks the long lake road
sometimes he waves
